Reader Review group to meet in July
|
Following Nigel Holmes' motion at General Synod in February 2006, the House of Bishops' Committee for Ministry has established a group to review the situation and report.
The first meeting is at the York General Synod in July. There will be two meetings in September and two more in October before a final one in December. The aim is to get the Report to the House of Bishops' meeting in January which will be debated in the July 2007 General Synod.
The topics listed are :
Morale of Readers
The range of ways in which Readers can be deployed
Reasons for the under use of Readers
Areas of overlap with ordained ministry and the developing variety of forms of authorised lay ministry
Clarification of the role or roles of a Reader
Any necessary revision of the Canons concerning Reader ministry
Statistical and anecdotal information is sought from Readers. The Reader magazine will be requesting feedback in its forthcoming issue, and comments can alternatively be passed on as posts on the Readers' Forum or as emails to the Website Editor.
The full text of the Synod debate is now on the main C of E site - link below.
